Shamsur Rahman Biography

Shamsur Rahman was born on 23rd October 1929. He is one of the main poets of modern Bengali literature. At the mid of 20s he became familiar both in Bangladesh and Kolkata. He was an urban poet. His two poems which are based on liberation war of Bangladesh achieved great popularity.

Shamsur Rahman Early Life and Education: He was born in his grandfather’s house. His father was Mokhlesur Rahman Chowdhury and mother was Amena Begum. Mokhlesur Rahman lived in the village Pahartali under Raipura Thana Norsingdi. Poet Shamsur Rahman had thirteen brothers and sisters. Poet was fourth of his siblings. He matriculated from Pogos High School in 1945. He passed IA exam from Dhaka Intermediate College in 1947. Then he admitted in Dhaka University in English and continued three years but did not complete. Finally he passed BA (pass course) in 1953.

Profession: He was journalist in his profession. He started his journalism life in a daily newspaper called daily Morning news in 1957. From 1960 to 1964 Shamsur worked as an associate editor in this newspaper. He was the factitive in Radio Pakistan program. Then he joined in daily Pakistan as an assistant editor in 1964. He appointed as an editor in daily Bangla and weekly Bichitra. Finally he joined monthly patrika Adhuna.

Personal Life: On 8th July 1955 Shamsur Rahman married Johra Begum. He has three sons and two daughters. They are Sumaira Amin, Faiyaz Rahman, Fowzia Saberin, Wahidur Rahman Motin and Sheba Rahman.

Literary life: His first poem “1949” was published in a weekly magazine Sonar Bangla. He used some pen name such as Sinbad, Lipikar, Nepothe, Mainak in different newspaper. He wrote a poem Hatir shur against Ayub Khan in 1958 and composed also a lovely poem telemekus for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He also wrote a poem Asad er shirt for the memory of martyred Asad. When tornado occurred in 1970 Shamsur wrote two poems for distressed people. He wrote Shadinota tumi poem which is based on liberation war of 1971. After downfall of Ershad government in 1991 Shamsur wrote a poem gonotontrer pokkhe kobita. Some of his major works are given below:

Poetry: Prothom Gan Ditio Mrittur Age, Roudro Korotite, Biddhosto Nilima, Niralokay Dibboroth, Neej Bashbhumay, Bondi Shibir Theke, Jhorna Amar Angulay, Khub Beshi Valo Thakte Nei, Moncher Majhkhanay etc.

Short stories: Shamsur Rahmaner Golpo.

Novels: Octopas, Adbhut Adhar Ak, Niyoto Montaz, Elo Je Abelzxzxay.

Others: Uponnyash Shomogro, Noyonar Uddeshe Golap, Kobitar Shather Gerostali, Gorosthane Kokiler Korun Ahban, Noyonar Jonno Ekti Golap, Shera Shamsur Rahman, Rongdhonur Sako, Shamsur Rahman er Sreshtha Kobita etc.

Awards: He received many awards for his literary works. He got Adamjee Literature award, Bangla academy award, Ekushey Padak, Nasir Uddin gold padak, Jibanananda Award, Abul Monsur Ahmad Memorial Award, Mitsubishi Award, Shadinota padak and Ananda purashkar. Some more India’s Rabindra Bharati University and Jadavpur University adorned him D.lit degree.

Death: Poet Shamsur Rahman died on 17th August 2006 in Dhaka at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University. He was buried in Banani graveyard beside his mother.

Syed Waliullah Biography

Syed Waliullah was born on 15th August 1922. He was a Bangladeshi novelist, short story writer, poet and reviewer. He was one of the modern poets of billow era of Bengali literature. His writing expression is like as European modernism. He is different in his literature subject, frame work and language gesture.

Syed Waliullah Early Life and Education: Syed Waliullah was born in Sholashahar, Chittagong, Bangladesh. His father Syed Ahmadullah was a government officer and mother Nasim Ara Khatun came from an aristocratic family. His mother died when he was eight. After two years his father again married in Taingail. He had two step brothers and three step sisters. His father died in Kolkata when he was twenty three. His all family members were highly educated. His father was a Magistrate, grandfather was Lawyer and maternal aunt was a writer. His father was government service holder so he travelled many places of East Bangla. He passed his Matriculation from Kurigram high school in 1939 and Intermediate from Dhaka College. Then he completed Distinction BA and admitted in MA class but did not complete.

Syed Waliullah Married Life: Waliulalh involved in foreign ministry of Pakistan and he passed a long time of his life in abroad. In 1955 he married Anne-Marie Thibaud. Waliullah worked in Pakistan Embassy and Anne-Marie worked In France embassy. They met each other in Sydney. Anne-Marie changed name was Aziza Mst. Nasrin. They have two childrens and they are Simin Waliullah and Eraz Waliullah.

Syed Waliullah Work Life: Waliullah entered in job life when he was student. In 1948 he got a job in the daily English newspaper The Statesman. He resigned the job and came to Dhaka. He took a job in Radio Pakistan as an assistant news reporter. He moved to Karachi from Dhaka as a news reporter. In 1951 he transferred New Delhi with promotion. Again he transferred Sydney with the same post at the end of 1952. He came to Dhaka as an information officer. He transferred again Karachi, Jakarta and Bonn. In 1961 he ranked to first Secretary in France Embassy. Finally he joined in UNESCO, Paris as a Program specialist and retired also from here.

Syed Waliullah Literary Life: In 1948 his first essay Nayanchara was published. He wrote Lal shalu novel when working in Radio Pakistan. His major works are given below:

Novel: Lal Shalu, Chander Amabassya, Kando nodi Kando.

Short Story: Nayanchara, Dui tir o Onnanno golpo.

Drama: Bahipir, Tarango Bongo, Surango.

Essay: Golpo Somogra, Syed Waliullah Rochonaboli 1 and 2.

 Death: Waliullah died at very early age. He died on 10th October, 1971 in Paris cause of Brain Hemorrhage. He bought a flat in Paris and buried beside this flat.

 Awards: Waliullah received many awards in his life. He got Ekushey Padak (1984), Adamjee Award (1965), Bangla Academy Award (1961) and P.E.N award (1955).

Taslima Nasrin Biography

Taslima Nasrin was born on 25th August 1962. She is a Bangladeshi writer and physician. At the decades of 80s Taslima achieved international fame for her feminist views and critics of religion. She is one of the pioneer poet, columnist, and novelist in Bengali literature. Her writing main theme is women rights, human rights and secularism. From 1994 she is living in different country because her life is in threat. Currently she is living USA.

Taslima Nasrin Early Life:  Taslima was born in Mymensingh district, Bangladesh. She is the third of her siblings. Her father Rajab Ali was a physician and mother Edul Ara. She passed her S.S.C. from Mymensingh residential school in 1976 and H.S.C. from Ananda Mohan College in 1978. Then she admitted Mymensingh Medical College and received her MBBS degree in 1984. From 1986 to 1989 she worked in government grameen hospital. She also worked at gynecology department of   Mitford hospital and at anesthesia department of Dhaka medical.

Taslima Nasrin Married life: In 1982 Taslima married poet Rudra Muhammad Shahidullah and they divorced each other. Again Taslima married prominent journalist and editor Nayeemul Islam Khan, the following year she also divorced. Finally she married Minar Mahmud and divorced in 1992. She has no children.

Taslima Nasrin Deported Life: In 1994 Taslima gave a statement in the newspaper The Statesman against Islamic law. Muslim people of Bangladesh demonstrated to give her hanged. After spending two months hiding she moved to Sweden in 1994 and Germany from 1995 to 1996. This time she got Sweden citizenship. She started living in USA from 1998. At that time she wanted to come in Bangladesh but government refused him. Taslima lived in France from 1999 to 2000. On 9 August 2007 Nasrin was in Hyderabad to present one of her novels Shodh when she was allegedly attacked by a mob. A week later Muslim leaders in Kolkata revived an old fatwa against her, urging her to leave the country on 21 November. Kolkata witnessed a protest against Nasrin. Government moved him to New Delhi and the house arrest quickly acquired an international dimension in a letter to human rights organization Amnesty International. Then Taslima went to Sweden and worked at New York University. The Centre for Inquiry assisted him to move him USA and established a fund for her food, housing and safety.

Taslima Nasrin Literary Life: Nasrin wrote her first poem at the age of thirteen. When she was in college, published and edited a literature magazine shejuti in 1983.Her first poem book shikore bipul khuda was published in 1986. This time Taslima started writing for women rights in a weekly newspaper khoborer kagoj which was published from Dhaka. Her fifth novel Lazza published in 1993. After writing this novel Muslim people told to ban it. She wrote seven autobiographies in which most of are banned by Bangladesh and India government. Some of her major works are given below:

Poetry: Shikore Bipul Khudha, Nirbashito Bahire Ontore, Amar Kichu Jay Ashe Ne, Atole Ontorin, Balikar Gollachut, Behula Eka Bhashiyechilo Bhela etc.

Essays: Nirbachito column, Jabo na keno jabo, Noshto meyer noshto goddo, Choto choto dukkho kotha, Narir Kono Desh Nei etc.

Novel: Oporpokkho, Shodh, Nimontron, Phera, Lazza etc.

Autobiography: Amar Meyebela, Utal hawa, ka, Nirbason etc.

Taslima Nasrin Awards: Taslim received many awards and honorary for her freedom and expression. She got Ananda literary Award, India (1992), Natyasava Award, Bangladesh, (1992), Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thoughts from the European Parliament (1994), Human Rights Award from the Government of France (1994), Edict of Nantes Prize from France (1994), Kurt Tucholsky Prize, Swedish PEN, Sweden, (1994), Hellman-Hammett Grant from Human Rights Watch, USA (1994), Humanist Award from Human-Etisk Forbund, Norway (1994), Feminist of the Year from Feminist Majority Foundation, USA (1994) and many others.
